Summer is here! If you’re planning to start university in China next fall, July and August are your golden window to pull ahead. Don’t wait until September to panic – start now, and double your chances.
Here’s your Summer Sprint Checklist to turn these two months into an application accelerator
1️⃣ Set Your Targets: University + Major (Week 1 of July)

Pick your city first: Love the big city vibe? Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou. Prefer better value for money? Xi’an, Chengdu, Kunming, Harbin.

Shortlist universities: Use CUCAS, China Admissions, or the official “Study in China” website to filter 5–8 schools that offer your preferred program.

Read the admission brochures: Go straight to each university’s “International Education College” page, download the latest undergraduate/language program guide, and note down deadlines, document requirements, tuition, and scholarships.
Pro tip: Create an Excel sheet with key info for each school – it makes comparing much easier.
2️⃣ Get Your Language Scores Ready (July – Early August)

Chinese-taught programs: Register for HSK (usually requires Level 4–5). Use summer to drill practice tests, especially listening and reading.

English-taught programs (e.g., MBBS): You’ll need IELTS/TOEFL or an official proof of English-medium instruction. Join a short-term prep course or do one full test every day.

If no language test is required: It’s still a plus to have a score – better to show than not.
Note: HSK and IELTS both require early registration. Check test dates on the official websites now!
3️⃣ Prepare Your Application Documents (By Mid-August)
Most Chinese universities require these core materials (prepare both Chinese and English versions if possible):

High school graduation certificate (notarised + translated)

Personal statement / Study plan (why this school? your future goals?)

Recommendation letters (1–2, from teachers or principal)

The personal statement is your “soft power”! Avoid clichés – be specific and sincere. Mention your interest in Chinese culture or your career plans.
4️⃣ Look for Scholarships (July – August)

CSC Scholarship (Chinese Government): Usually opens late in the previous year, but start following their website during summer.

International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (Confucius Institute): Best for language students – covers a full academic year.

Provincial / University scholarships: e.g., Shanghai Government Scholarship, university freshman awards – check each school’s website.

Don’t forget the China-Russia Education Years (2026–2027)! If you’re Russian, there are many special exchange and joint‑training programs this year. Keep an eye on announcements from the China-Russia Commission for Humanitarian Cooperation.
Scholarship applications often require extra essays. Prepare them during summer so you can submit as soon as they open.
5️⃣ Reach Out to Universities (Late August)
Don’t wait for them to contact you – be proactive!

Email the International Admissions Office of your target universities. Briefly introduce yourself and ask about application details or scholarship quotas.

If they hold online info sessions or open days, attend them – you can ask questions directly.

Write in English or Chinese, be polite and clear.
